Inspiration for this piece comes from the 3rd millenium B.C., original piece in the Hermitage, Museum, Leningrad
In this poignant scene of two griffins attacking a horse. This is a purely non-Greek theme: The Scythians' vast herds that roamed the steppes, were thought to be preyed upon by mysterious and violent predators. Horses were revered and guarded by Scythians.
